COPY-Officials give 'State of the UMR campus' address

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Nearly 200 community leaders, staff and faculty attended the 5th annual "State of the UMR Campus" address Thursday at the University of Minnesota - Rochester.

The address highlighted increasing enrollment numbers, plans to acquire new land and goals of continuing to integrate classroom learning with Rochester professionals.

"UMR is beginning to have a larger impact on the community and I can see that by talking to the different community partners. I would say that their impact is amazing," said Samantha Calvin, class of 2013.

There are currently 790 students enrolled at the university.  The increase in UMR "Raptors" in Rochester is just one of the school's achievements highlighted at the State of the Campus address.

"We're part of a unique community that has amazing assets around health and we're a health sciences program," said Hegland.  "We're not working in isolation. We're working with our community partners and we're committed to doing that for the long run."

The university is looking into acquiring land near the Rochester Area Family Y.  According to the university, they're in the process of conducting a land utilization study which will be presented to the Board of Regents next May.
