Winona bar makes security changes after weekend fight

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Winona bar that was the scene of a fight over the weekend is now making some security changes.

The incident at MC's Sports Bar near the Winona State University campus occurred just before 1 a.m. Sunday. The fight led to the stabbing of one Winona man and one of the bouncers had several teeth knocked out.

Bar owners are now enacting several new security measures in order to preserve the safety of their patrons.

"Adding a couple bouncers, one specifically in the patio where past altercations broke out," said Clint Evans, MC's Sports Bar owner. "That seems to be an area where there's, I'd say where most of our escalations would start from the patio area."

Workers are installing new security cameras, as well as doubling the current number of cameras in order to cover every square foot of the bar.

Bar owners are hoping this is a fluke incident, and students say they have never experienced a brawl such as this one.

"Most of it seems like shocked that it happened, because it never really happens around here, fights and stuff," said student Josh Villeneuve. "I mean maybe minor fights once or twice at a party or something."'

Two individuals involved in the fight are facing misdemeanor charges.

Dustin Michael Larson faces fourth degree assault of a police officer and obstructing legal process.

Sephanie Ann Smith was cited for obstructing legal process and disorderly conduct.

Eyewitnesses and bar staff say that Sunday morning's incident most likely involved several fights rather than just one large brawl.

One thing is for certain, MC's Sports Bar is doing everything it can to ensure that this never happens again.
