MNSure adds options for Olmsted and Dodge Counties

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KTTC) -- Minnesota's health insurance exchange web site, MNSure, announced Wednesday it will be adding 7 new health insurance plans to the site for customers in Dodge and Olmsted counties.

At MNsure's call center, employees take calls from customers looking for healthcare coverage, but for residents in places like Olmsted and Dodge counties, the options had been limited.

"Ultimately, it was up to insurance companies to provide or issue insurance to that particular area," says Commerce Commissioner, Mike Rothman.

Five companies are selling more than 140 plans on the exchange, and Medica is one of them.  According to Commissioner Rothman, the Department of Commerce and Department of Health have been working with the company for more than 4-weeks to add choice to the site.

"Medica, for its particular in-network reasons, had decided not to provide insurance for that zip code area,"  says Commissioner, Mike Rothman.

Now, these areas will have two choices to the bronze, silver and gold plans-which will also offer corresponding child coverage.  According to MNSure, the new options will be added as soon as possible.
