MASON CITY, Iowa (KTTC) -- A Mason City man was arrested after police said he intentionally crashed a stolen pickup truck into a home.
Officers responded to a report of a truck that struck a home and left the scene in the zero block of 23rd Street S.W. in Mason City at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday.
Mason City police said a witness followed the truck to a residence outside the city limits on 34th Street S.E. and called police. Officers arrested 21-year-old Zachary James Kantaris. Police said Kantaris allegedly broke into Key Wholesale at 1136 South Carolina Avenue and stole a laptop computer. Kantaris then went to the Alliant Energy warehouse at 622 15th Street S.E. where he entered an employee's vehicle. Police said Kantaris allegedly stole an Alliant Energy owned pickup truck and drove it through a security gate, destroying it. Kantaris then crashed the truck into a home on 23rd Street, according to police.
Kantaris is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree Theft, 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree Burglary, 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, 2nd Offense O.W.I, and Driving While Revoked.
