1,000 students crowd Riverland Community College Career Fair

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- Nearly 1,000 regional high school students stormed the Riverland Community College in Austin for Career Day and College Fair on Wednesday.

The fair featured more than 90 college representatives from colleges across the region and the U.S.

In the morning students attended career seminars from a wide range of career backgrounds with the most popular being, "Paying For College Without Drowning In Debt."

With tuition constantly on the rise, this program helped students learned how to protect their wallets. For some students, though, it's truly a lot to think about.

"I don't know what I want to do yet and doing this gives me an idea of, like, well first of all what I don't want to do, which is also really important to know.  But, also, like, sort of, what I could see myself doing.  Which is like...I definitely need to start thinking about that," says high school student Rika Boorsma.

Riverland will waive its application fee the last week of October as part of College Knowledge month in the state. A move that will hopefully take some of the stress away from students.
