WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -- A Winona man accused of striking and killing an elderly woman with his car has learned his fate.
21-year-old Robert Tofstad was sentenced Thursday to 60 days in jail, 10 years probation and 400 hours of community service.
In August, Tofstad pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide.
The incident happened on February 19th, 2012, on East Broadway Street in Winona. That's where Tofstad hit and killed 85-year-old Ruth Brendel while she was crossing the street on her way to church.
Tofstad says he didn't see Brendel because his windshield was frosted over.
