WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -- A local man from Winona is competing on the Fox T.V. national singing competition show, The X-Factor.
With a music teacher for a mother and a band director as a father, it's no surprise that singing superstar Tim Olstad has emerged from this Winona 'Patridge Family' of sorts.
On Wednesday night's show, the 23-year-old blew away X-Factor judges with his rendition of Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years." from the Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn.
And on Thursday night's episode, Olstad earned his spot in the show's top 40 competitors and gained Latin singing sensation, Paulina Rubio, as his mentor.
But despite the judge's high praise, Olstad's parents say they knew they had a star in their midst all along.
"I remember when Tim was probably two or three years old, he would sit down at the piano and he would just start playing a C-Major scale, every time he sat down, he would play a C-Major scale. And he's always sung constantly in the house, so I was pretty sure early on that he had a lot of talent," Olstad's parents said Thursday.
The next round of X-Factor competition is the the Four-Chair Challenge which will air next Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. on our sister station, FOX 47.
