ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- A construction worker is in fair condition Thursday at Saint Marys Hospital after falling into a trench in downtown Rochester Wednesday afternoon.
The accident happened at the intersection of 3rd Avenue Northwest and 1st Street Northwest at about 4:15 p.m.
Capt. Ross Baker with the Rochester Fire Department said a pile of dirt became unstable causing Glenn Pearson, 30, to fall into the trench.
Pearson became trapped under the dirt but co-workers were able to quickly get him out of the hole.
"That's a lot of pressure when all that dirt comes down on top of you at the same time. He also took a shovel handle to the chest violently from the collapse. That was his main concern and biggest injury at this time," Baker said.
