AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Austin City Council approved a new flood protection project Wednesday morning.
At a special meeting Wednesday, the council voted to assign the winning bid on the North Main Flood Control Project to Reiner Contracting, Inc. Their bid for the project was a little more than 5 million dollars.
The project is located along North Main Street from Bellisio Foods to I-90. It will consist mainly of concrete flood walls and earth berms. However, areas around Main Street will also get some sprucing up with a garden wall near Pizza Hut.
City officials said the 5 million dollar EDA grant was key in their decision to act quickly on passing the project.
