ST. CHARLES, Minn. (KTTC) -- The 30th Annual Wagon Train for Youth kicked off in St. Charles on Friday. The Minnesota Sheriff's Mounted Posse Association sponsored the parade of horse-drawn wagons and equestrians.
The group will cover more than 40 miles during the 3-day ride. Nearly 50 people rode alongside members of the Winona County Sheriff's Mounted Posse. The parade will rest each night at the Winona County Fairgrounds. Susan Lockling has participated in more than 400 of these rides since she was 18 years old.
"After you start doing these, it just gets in your blood and everyone here is family," said Lockling. "We come from all over the state of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin."
For a fee, anyone with a wagon or horse can participate and all proceeds are donated to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Minneapolis. This is the second year the Winona County Sheriff's Mounted Posse has sponsored the event. Last year's Wagon Train raised more than $8,000.
