ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Several new businesses will be going into a lot in northwest Rochester that used to hold the vacant Burger King building that was recently demolished.
Mattress Firm, a national chain, will be one of two companies that will set up shop in the 7800 square foot, two-tenant building at 41st Street Northwest and East Frontage Road.
The other will be a fast-food restaurant that plans to utilize the same drive-thru pattern as the former Burger King. The name of that restaurant has yet to be confirmed.
Rest Assured Mattress Factory is next to the building going up. But is another mattress store just a stones throw away a bad thing for business? Not if you ask the store's owner, Charles Dixon, who says he is excited about a little competition.
"I see it as a positive for me. It'll bring business to this side of the highway, as opposed to all of the competitors on the other side of the highway. It'll be nice to have a competitor on this side, and I think if they're shopping Mattress Firm, they'll also shop Rest Assured Mattress," Dixon said.
Just two weeks ago, the site was an abandoned building, formerly known as Burger King, for eight years.
The building will look similar to a strip mall and is expected to be mostly completed a week from Friday. The companies will start moving in as soon as the week before Thanksgiving.
