ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Even though the weather feels more like July, students around southeastern Minnesota are gearing up to head back to school-- if school hasn't already started.
And and in preparation of the first day of school, students around Rochester had a little one-on-one time as they got aquainted with their new teachers Thursday, with an event called, Meet The Teacher.
Elementary students at 16 Rochester schools got to meet their teachers Thursday.
At Bamber Valley Elementary school, the kids were able to pick up their class schedules and meet the teachers.
They also got a peek at their classroom and were able to drop off their backpacks and other school supplies and, most importantly-- catch up with friends they haven't seen all summer.
Bamber Valley's Principal Brenda Wichmann told KTTC, Meet The Teacher's Day is an exciting icebreaker day for lots of students.
RPS says more Meet the Teacher events are happening Thursday for most grades at almost every elementary school in the district. Some middle schools have already held similar events.
Officials say the first day of school in the RPS district is next Tuesday, September 3.
