Albers pitches 2-hitter, Twins blank Indians 3-0

MINNEAPOLIS - Andrew Albers threw a two-hitter in his second career start and the Minnesota Twins backed him with a pair of home runs to beat the Cleveland Indians 3-0 Monday night.

Albers (2-0) allowed just two singles, walked none and struck out two.

"That's two performances in a row just like that. That was special tonight in front of our crowd and we got a chance to see this man throw the baseball," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.

Gardenhire praised Albers for working at a quick pace and changing speeds with his pitches. He also praised the outstanding defense behind him..

"There's the story, right there in the clubhouse," Gardenhire said. "A couple of homers a (great) pitching performance by that young man."

Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe homered to help the Twins win for the eighth time in 11 games.

Prized prospect Danny Salazar (1-1) gave up three runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in four innings. The slumping Indians have lost seven of their last eight and are in danger of sliding out of the playoff chase.

Jason Kipnis and Yan Gomes had the only hits for Cleveland.
