Trails 4 Transplants donates to Gift of Life Transplant House

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) --  A big check for Gift of Life Transplant House is coming from the dusty trails of Minnesota and North Dakota.

A group called Trails 4 Transplants raised more than 40-thousand dollars for Gift of Life Transplant House on a 311 mile horseback trail ride that stretched from Warren in Northern Minnesota all the way to St. Anthony, North Dakota.

About 125 people joined along the way, and eight made the full two-week trek that started at the end of May.

Co-Chair Ashley Peterson says she was inspired by her own experience with organ donation.

"My brother was an organ donor," Peterson said. "He was killed in June of 2000 and saved for lives through his decision, so just to promote organ donation and just make people aware of the importance of the decision to make and to tell your family."

This was the first year for the trail ride, but the group says they are already in the planning stages for a trail ride next summer that will stretch even farther west.
