Rally to call for tighter gun background checks

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Victims' family members and survivors of recent mass shootings are in Minneapolis, calling for tighter background checks for gun buyers.

The rally organized by Mayors Against Illegal Guns is part of a 25-state bus tour to call for change in current gun policies. Participants will urge Congress to support legislation that would extend background checks to cover private gun sales in commercial settings.

A survivor of the Accent Signage shooting in Minneapolis will participate, as well as the son of a victim in that shooting. The sister of a Newtown, Conn., school shooting victim will also attend, along with mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul, and law enforcement.

The rally is at 10 a.m. Wednesday outside the U.S. District Courthouse in Minneapolis.
