4 salmonella cases reported in Cerro Gordo County

MASON CITY, Iowa (FOX 47) -- The Iowa Department of Public Health says there has been a surge in salmonella cases recently.

Four cases have been reported in Cerro Gordo County. A total of 26 cases have been reported across Iowa.

The cases are related to a salmonella strain often linked to improper cooking of poultry or eggs.

The public health department recommends cooking chicken to an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Eggs used in potato salad or other dishes also should be cooked until the yolks are firm.
