5-year-old boy seriously hurt in Mpls. window fall

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A 5-year-old boy is in serious condition after falling through a fourth-floor window screen to the ground outside a north Minneapolis apartment.

Police spokesman Sgt. William Palmer says the child was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center after the fall about 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The Star Tribune reports that the hospital said Tuesday afternoon that the boy was in serious condition.

A neighbor says the boy landed on the grass.

Fourth Precinct Police Inspector Michael Kjos (johs) urges parents to alert their children to the dangers of open windows.

Kjos says, "Do not consider a screen to be a safety net."
