GOP's McFadden fleshes out issues in Senate bid

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike McFadden is looking like a fundraising force in his bid to take on Democratic Sen. Al Franken. Now he's starting to talk about the issues.

McFadden raised $765,000 in the month of June. But the political newcomer has been a blank slate on issues.

In an Associated Press interview, McFadden endorsed the concept of a path to citizenship for immigrants in the country illegally, and expanded background checks for gun sales. McFadden also says there should be a discussion of raising the eligibility age for social security and Medicare. He's opposed to federal tax increases and abortion.

State Rep. Jim Abeler also wants to be the GOP's Senate candidate. State Sen. Julianne Ortman says she's close to a decision on the race.
