ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- It's out with the old and in with the new on a controversial water reservoir in Rochester.
Workers are removing the existing reservoir in Saint Marys Park in preparation for a new $3.5 million gallon tank.
The new tank will be constructed in the same location. In May, Rochester Public Utilities decided to keep the new reservoir in the same spot despite protests of neighbors who argue the massive tank will be detrimental to the neighborhood and the park.
Officials say the new reservoir will be twice the size of any other water storage facility in Rochester.
Mayo Clinic owns the property and has already signed off on the plan, which also includes aesthetic improvements to the structure.
