BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wisconsin (WXOW) - An early morning fire destroys part of a lumber company in Black River Falls.
A neighbor out with her dog around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning noticed the fire at the Hart Tie & Lumber company at 518 Winnebago Street.
When firefighters arrived, it was discovered that a large bin with wood shavings and saw dust was on fire. According to Chief Steve Schreiber, piles of shavings and saw dust were on fire outside the building as well.
It took more than an hour to get the fire under control. As crews were doing so, one wall of the bin collapsed. No one was injured.
What started the fire isn't known yet according to Chief Schreiber, nor is a damage estimate. The business' owner said that work on the bin was done the day before. A worker said he hadn't seen or smelled any sign of a fire when he left around 6:00 p.m. Friday evening.
Chief Schreiber reports that this was the second time a fire occured in the bin. Firefighters were called there back on September 2, 2006.
