ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Demolition of the former Bell Tower Inn and Alpine Inn is underway in Rochester.
The Rochester City Council approved the removal of the buildings in April. Demolition began Thursday and by Monday the lot was a pile of rubble.
The demolition will make way for a parking lot, a decision that has seen some backlash.
Some neighboring business owners have expressed worry about the loss of an alley behind the buildings citing deliveries and garbage trucks.
2nd Street Parking LLC owns the site. Javon Bea is a principle member of 2nd Street Parking LCC and said in a statement that "Investors are planning on providing much needed parking in the Saint Marys area on an interim basis until a hotel can be constructed."
The property is slated to stay a parking lot for as long as five years
