ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Rochester City Council voted Monday night to approve a bid for a new road project in northwest Rochester.
The project calls for extending 41st Street Northwest to 50th Avenue Northwest and will be known as Badger Hills Drive.
The roadway will run east and west between West Circle Drive Northwest and 50th Avenue Northwest.
Elcor Construction submitted the lowest bid. The project is estimated to cost about $4.8 million.
City Traffic Engineer George Calebaugh says the project goes hand in hand with Rochester's growth.
"This is the first step in providing the transportation infrastructure for that development that's going to be coming," Calebaugh said.
Calebaugh said the road will have three roundabouts. Crews will also upgrade the traffic signal at West Circle Drive.
Work on the project will start this summer with part of it being done in November. The full stretch will be completed in June 2014.
