Man leaves baby in car while shopping

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- A Rochester dad is facing some tough criticism after leaving his sleeping 8-month-old baby unattended in a car while he ran errands in a store. And it isn't the first time it has happened.

Rochester police say the baby was inside an unlocked car with the windows down.

A concerned citizen called them from the parking lot of Menards south when they heard the baby crying.

Officers say this all happened on Tuesday around 12:30 p.m. when the outdoor temperature was near 77-degrees.

Police say when they got to the scene, they called Gold Cross ambulance to examine the 8-month-old. As a precaution, they took the girl to the hospital.

Luckily, nothing was wrong.

The 32-year-old father who left his daughter in the unlocked car told police he was running a quick errand and only planned to be in the store for a few minutes.

However, police say the call came in at 12:30 p.m.-- and the father didn't come back out to the car until after 1 p.m.

The man wasn't arrested, but officers are forwarding the case to the county attorney to review.

And officials also say this isn't the first time this father has done this, either.

Reports show he left an infant in the car in the Hyvee parking lot as he shopped in November of last year.
