10 Who Make A Difference: Steve Conners

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Our latest honoree in the KTTC/United Way of Olmsted County's 10 Who Make A Difference is a man whose mission is to provide all families--especially those with lower incomes--computers for their homes.

Steve Conners is the lead volunteer for the computer refurbishing program at the Ability Building Center. He's taken the program from its beginnings at the United Way at brought it to ABC, growing the program from about 500 computers a year to more than 1500.

Steve has a great group of colleagues who help him, including clients at ABC with varying degrees of disabilities. He says providing meaningful work is the most rewarding part of this.

"This is work for people with disabilities. So a lot of people get to go home and tell their families they've worked on computers. They fix hard drives and load programs, and fix computers with viruses," Connors said.

After the computers are refurbished, many are sold to local schools, non-profit organizations, and people in our community who can't otherwise afford a new computer.

So to Steve, his colleagues, and some great workers at ABC--we say thanks for all you do-- and congratulations on being one of our 10 Who Make A Difference!
