ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- One of our region's telltale signs it's summer starts Friday: the 31st annual Rochesterfest, held throughout the area for the next 10 days.
This year's Rochesterfest theme is "Cheers...Bring on the Fest!"
Activities started Friday with segway tours of Soldiers Field, and the Hambone Music Festival. And you'll find activities like this up until the end of the month.
Some more of the popular events include Monday's ice cream social and Teen Night, and later this week the Million Dollar Hole In One Golf Shoot-Out.
A new event this year-- kind of-- is the famous Mayor's Cup Hot Air Balloon Race, which is being held for the first time in 4 years.
And, of course, there's the Grand Parade next Friday. This year the parade is in honor of Buck Shultz, Kak Johnson and Denny Hanson, all public figures here in Rochester who have passed away.
You can also expect to see some new and interesting foods...like alligator on a stick, deep-fried Oreos and the classic gourmet cheese curds.
The foods and activites that make up Rochesterfest are celebrated each year to showcase our city's history and tradtion.
Organizers encourage everyone to buy a Rochesterfest button, which are good for a variety of discounts at more than 30 businesses and free admissions during the 10- day festival.
You can buy a Rochesterfest button at local stores and non-profit groups. Click HERE to see where to get your button.
