AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- A Minneapolis-based company took a big step Thursday in its purchase of Austin Packaging Company.
Mower County Judge Fred Wellmann approved and signed the terms of sale for Bellisio Foods Incorporated to take control of the plant.
Bellisio, a manufacturer of frozen dinners, is purchasing the Austin company for $6.1 million.
The deal effectively saves Austin Packaging from bankruptcy.
The company owed millions of dollars to creditors and was forced to lay off much of their workforce last year.
Bellisio Foods tells the Austin Daily Herald it plans to keep APC in Austin and expand its operations.
Belisio also plans to bring back the employees that were formerly laid off.
The judge's approval is one of the last steps in the acquisition of APC. The sale will be final on July 3.
