VIOLA, Minn. (KTTC) -- It's one of the longest-running celebrations in the country-- and it continues Thursday as friends and families come together in the town of Viola for the annual Viola Gopher Count.
Thursday's Grand Parade will began the days events at 10 a.m. The rest of the day will be filled with music, food and contests.
The celebration began when the first Viola settlers wanted to encourage trapping gophers that cause damage to farmland.
They had a contest to see who could collect the most gopher feet-- which is still around today.
Events will last until late Thursday night with a street dance starting at 8:30 p.m.
