near LANESBORO, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Root River State Trail between the towns of Lanesboro and Whalan closed Monday for repairs.
The Department of Natural Resources says construction crews will repave the trail and widen it from 8 to 10 feet.
The crews will also replace three bridges in this five mile area.
The DNR encourages the public to use the Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail during this construction.
Craig Blommer, from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says the trail is in poor shape. "We will have a much safer passage. A much smoother passage. It may even bring back the inline skaters which we haven't seen quite as many of now that the surface, once the surface gets improved," Blommer said Monday.
The DNR expects the project to be completed by July 12th. There will be no marked detour around the area under repair.
