Bergmann sentencing set for Monday afternoon

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- A southeast Minnesota man accused of shooting a woman in the neck and fleeing police will learn his fate later today.

He faces more than a dozen charges...including two counts of attempted murder.

Authorities say the victim has made a full recovery after being shot in the neck.

In April, 39-year-old Roger Bergmann of Canotn pleaded guilty to 3rd degree attempted murder, 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon, and a drug charge.

It all stems from an incident last December, when Bergman shot a 49-year-old woman inside a home in Preston, in front of a witness.

According to the criminal complaint, the witness was at the house to get money that Bergmann had owed him, when Bergmann pulled out the gun and eventually struck the woman with it before shooting her in the neck.

Bergmann immediately fleed the scene.

He was spotted by a Rushford police officer and chased into Winona County.

Bergmann eventually got out of his truck and surrendered to authorities. Authorities then searched his truck and found amunition, crystal meth, and cash.

Bergman's sentencing is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Fillmore County Court.
