UPDATE: No injuries after rescue during north Iowa flash flood

Posted: Updated:

NEAR NORTHWOOD, Iowa (KTTC) -- As storms rolled through, crews staged a dramatic rescue in north Iowa, pulling a child and two adults from a vehicle submerged in floodwater.

It happened Wednesday evening near Interstate 35, just south of the Minnesota-Iowa border near Northwood, Iowa, not long after a severe thunderstorm rolled through the area.

A terrifying evening for the family from Waverly, Iowa, turned into a miraculous rescue, as water overflowed a ditch alongside a road and threatened to overtake a submerged SUV.

In this desperate situation, had the rescue team been any later, the three inside this car may have faced a different fate.

The experience was traumatizing, given the shock on the 3-year-old girl's face as she is rushed to dry land, then the emotional tears as she reaches her family.

Authorities say they spent 45 minutes getting the girl and two women, one of who was nine months pregnant, out of the SUV.

All three were examined on scene by first responders and did not need medical attention.

Crews with the Northwood and Mason City fire departments, Lake Mills Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol and Worth County Sheriff's Department responded.

John Marshall baseball player makes remarkable recovery after suffering stroke during game

Baseball is a way of life for John Marshall's Austin Brown. In what feels like the swing of a bat, it's already Senior Night. "It's going to be really tough after the game, just thinking I'm not going to play on this field anymore," says Brown. The soon-to-be graduate is the right fielder for the John Marshall High School Rockets this year. But just one year ago, Austin's senior season seemed out of reach.
