ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- It takes something special to go out of your way for the sake of helping others and it can often present challenges. On Tuesday a handful of individuals were honored at Mayo Clinic as part of its Destination Medical Center Ambassador Program.
The Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) Program involves front-line staff on both the Mayo Clinic and the Community of Rochester's side. Members of the program are actively involved in events and putting forth extra effort to help serve patients and visitors.
There are more than 600 employees in Rochester that have become certified since the programs beginning 2011.
"To get the award they are actually nominated by other CTA's. They actually fill out a nomination form. And then they are selected by a local committee," said Keeley Hruska the Director Of Business & Partner Services.
There were four awards presented. The Hospitality CTA of the Year was given to Steve Miller a bellman at the Doubletree. The Employer of the Year went to Hampton Inn and Suites in North Rochester. The Mayo Clinic CTA of the Year is Sonja Amy.
Amy, In addition to receiving the local award, she was also named CTA of the Year for the Nation after being selected on a national committee.
