La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) The road to the Northwoods League title begins again this week.
On Wednesday, the La Crosse Loggers embark on a four game road trip to start the season.
There's plenty of old and new with the Northwoods League's defending champions, including the man taking the Loggers helm, manager Jason Nell.
The Loggers skipper spent much of Tuesday's practice getting to know his team and get them up to speed on the basics.
They'll have plenty more time to get to know each other on the lengthy bus ride to Battle Creek, Michigan.
But first impressions are positive.
They all can play I think, but what I like about them right now is they seem, and it might be the first week or the first day or whatever it is, but they all want to work, and they're good character kids," Nell said before the teams one and only practice at Copeland Park.
"He seems pretty laid back, likes to goof around with us and he knows baseball. That's the big part that I really like," said outfielder Bobby Juan.
The Loggers will play two games in Battle Creek then two more in Madison before hosting Wisconsin Rapids in the home opener this Sunday.
