LAKE CITY, Minn. (KTTC)--On Saturday, the City that thrives on the Lake it's located on comes alive at the Marina for the Lake Pepin Sailboat Regatta.
Many gathered for the blessing of the boats.
"It's a tradition that's come down through hundreds of years," said Lorne McDonald of Lake City.
Then, they're off...for the first race of the Pepin Open-a sailing competition between Lake City and Hudson, Wisconsin's Yacht Club.
"It's a great weekend for us, because it's the unofficial start of the boating season," said Bill Petrowiak, Lake City Yacht Club Commodore. "We get to cap it off with a blessing of the fleet. It allows us to come together, both the residents of Lake City and the community of the Marina."
Sailing in Lake City, isn't all about the competition. Many people have come here today to spend some quality time with their family.
"It's just a nice opportunity, because you all get to focus and you all get to do the same thing, in the same place, at the same time. People can't really wonder off, so it's a good place to spend the weekend," said Jerome Abrams of Mendota Heights.
Lake City Marina is home to 150 boats, with sailors from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
