UPDATE: Rochester woman who died helping tow vehicle identified

Posted: Updated:

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Police have identified the Rochester woman who died Saturday of injuries she received while helping tow a vehicle.

Diane Sorensen, 59, was trying to help Wade Cole, 46, tow his roommate's vehicle out of a snow bank Saturday night in the 4300 block of 29th Street Southeast.

Authorities say Sorensen was underneath the stalled vehicle, attaching a tow chain, when the chain snapped, and the vehicle ran her over.

Sorensen later died of her injuries.

Police say the chain was actually two chains attached with a metal hanger. It had broken twice before in attempts to get the car out of the snow.

Cole was arrested for criminal vehicular operation, and officers on scene said he smelled of alcohol.
