MINNEAPOLIS (KTTC) -- Eight people died in crashes on Minnesota roads over the weekend-- including three deaths in southeastern Minnesota-- making it the deadliest weekend of 2013.
Marvin Jech, 66, of Rochester, was killed when his vehicle collided with another vehicle Saturday on Highway 14.
Another crash near Dover Saturday took the life of Steven Orris, 32, of St. Charles. His passeneger, Mina Haslerud, 37, also of St. Charles, later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
In Minneapolis, the State Patrol says another three victims died in a Sunday crash on Interstate 94 when some minor contact between three vehicles caused a minivan driver to lose control and rollover. Five others in the minivan were injured.
The names of the victims who died in that crash have not been released. But authorities say they are an 80-year-old woman, a 44-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old male. They weren't wearing seat belts properly.
State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske urges motorists to buckle up, drive at safe speeds and pay attention.
