ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- The weather may have been slow to warm up this year, but that hasn't held back home construction in southeastern Minnesota.
Here in Rochester, 2013 has been the best year for new home builders since 2008.
So far, the city has issued 63 new single family home building permits, which is about 5 more than had been issued by this time last year. 29 of those permits were issued just in March.
Terry Johnson is the owner of Majestic Homes, and he says much of the growth can be attributed to low interest rates and home prices that are just starting to rise.
He also says the prospect of the Mayo Destination Medical Center plan may already be helping. If the DMC bill passes, Johnson says he expects an even bigger increase in new home building in Rochester in the coming years.
