NEAR PINE ISLAND, Minn. (KTTC) -- A woodshop near Pine Island is a total loss after a fire breaks out.
The woodshop belonged to the family of Deianerah "D.J." Logan, the Byron High School student who died after her vehicle collided with a school bus last fall.
The fire started at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on the Dodge County, Olmsted County line. Both Pine Island and West Concord Fire Departments responded quickly to the scene, as well as members of the Dodge County Sheriff's Office.
Upon arrival, firefighters immediately began trying to save the structure, but the fire had done too much damage.
Dodge County Sheriff Jim Jensen said the fire started in the shop while the owner was working inside.
"Apparently the owner of the wood-working shop was out there doing some work and a fire started," Jensen said. "He thought he had the fire out and went outside to get some fresh air. He came back in and the fire started up again."
Several firefighters were treated on scene for lack of oxygen. The shop owner and the firefighters are all OK.
