ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- An early morning standoff in Rochester ended in the arrest of a man Friday morning.
According to Rochester police captain Brian Winters, authorities searched for the man all day Thursday after a possible suicide attempt was reported. That's when authorities began looking for Ramon Ruiz, 33. It wasn't until the early morning hours on Friday that police zeroed in on his location.
After it was reported to police that Ruiz was involved in a domestic situation involving a female partner, police determined there was reason to believe Ruiz and a victim may have been in a house on the 500 block of 3rd Street Northwest in Rochester. Police set up a perimeter and roads were blocked off. Police also deployed the Crisis Negotiation Unit and Emergency Response Unit.
Captain Winters explained, "When we have somebody that we have additional information that they may not be stable or they may be thinking about suicide certainly we factor that into our response. Last thing we want to do is confront an individual that's already thinking along those lines," Winters said.
Ultimately, Ruiz was arrested on the scene. He could face felony level charges for violating a domestic abuse no contact order, which police say Ruiz violated before.
Police say the victim did not have any apparent physical injuries.
Their investigation is continuing.
