Dayton shows support for DMC

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Destination Medical Center bill came to an abrupt halt Tuesday in the House Tax Committee but that isn't stopping the governor.

At a House Tax Committee hearing Tuesday, chairwoman Rep. Ann Lenczewski, DFL-Bloomington, said she was concerned that tax preferences Mayo is seeking could come at too steep a price. She also said the bill would need a considerable makeover to get through her committee.

Dayton said Thursday he wants to find a way to give Mayo Clinic the financial support and security it needs for Destination Medical Center.

"I'm optimistic we'll find something," Dayton said. "It's a great project. I mean Mayo is just priceless in its value to the state and Rochester, Olmsted County."

Bill sponsor Rep. Kim Norton, DFL-Rochester, is confident the bill will eventually pass through the House Tax Committee after a few adjustments.
