ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- A project proposed back in the 90's has moved one step closer to ground-breaking, as officials unveiled Tuesday what's being called the 55th St. expansion project.
Once completed, it will give drivers another option to get from Highway 52 to Highway 63.
If you use Essex park or use the community gardens right off of 55th street know exactly where this project will go.
This project looks to add two miles of new road that will give drivers another option to cross the Zumbro River. It will be designed to cut down on drive time and reduce traffic on 37th St. northwest.
Along with the main phase of this project, parts of Highway 63 will also be getting a facelift.
Essex Park and the Community Gardens just off of 55th Street will be affected, but officials say whatever land is taken away for this projerct will replaced elsewhere.
Contsruction on the project isn't slated to start until late 2014 or 2015.
