ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Good news for those pulling for the Mayo Civic Center expansion, as Governor Dayton previewed his bonding proposal Tuesday.
The governor released bits and pieces of the $750 million dollar proposal, which included the St. Cloud, Mankato, and Rochester civic centers.
This isn't uncharted territory for those pulling for the expansion and renovation-- it's been an ongoing effort to get state bonding money for the last seven years.
In 2010, a Civic Center Renovation had both House and Senate support, but once it hit the desk of Governor Pawlenty, the Mayo Civic Center was nixed from the list.
So this is the closest it has been to approval ever since. Mayo Civic Center staff are keeping their fingers crossed, moreso because the plans to expand have already been paid for. Officials said half of the expansion is hoped to be covered by the state and the rest by the city.
The governor's package is expected to be released next week.
