UPDATE: Victim named in snowmobile crash

MILLVILLE, Minn. (KTTC) - Authorities have named the victim in a Thursday night snowmobile crash in Wabasha County.

The crash happened around 11:15pm Thursday in Millville, near County Road 72.

The Wabasha County Sheriffs office says Jason Bye, 36, Eyota, apparently attempted to jump across County Road 72 when he struck a guy wire and was thrown from his snowmobile.

The owner of the land where the accident occurred says the men appeared to be traveling from Zumbro Falls to Millville and took a short cut through his field, which was not a designated snowmobile trail.

Elgin emergency crews transported Bye to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, where authorities said Friday morning he's listed in serious condition.

The Wabasha County sheriff's office along with Zumbro Falls first responders and the Elgin ambulance responded to the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
