COLD SPRING, Minn. (AP) -- The city of Cold Spring has retired the badge number of slain police Officer Tom Decker.

The Cold Spring City Council retired Decker's badge number at Wednesday's meeting as a sign of respect.

Badge No. 6402 will no longer be used by the Cold Spring-Richmond Police Department. The department has eight full-time officers and eight part-time officers.

City Administrator Paul Hetland tells the St. Cloud Times that Police Chief Phil Jones asked for Decker's badge number to be retired. Officials hope to have a formal ceremony to retire the number later.

Decker was gunned down November 29th while responding to a call in Cold Spring. The investigation into his shooting is ongoing.
