Come snow and wind, Waterloo street crews are prepared to work around the clock

When it snows and blows, the City of Waterloo says its plows are ready to roll.

"The wind is just brutal on us," said Operations Supervisor for the Street Department Tony Pauley.

Pauley said even dangerous, whiteout conditions won't keep the plow drivers from doing their job. He said they'll be working around the clock, no matter what.

"The wind slows us down considerably, especially in the outskirts. By the time we get one lap done on the main priority roads, we have to go right back and hit them again because it blows them right back shut. It's a monotonous process and ongoing," he said.

The City of Waterloo plans to have 35 plows running once two inches of snow accumulates Thursday night. City officials say the first goal is to clear priority roads before plowing out neighborhoods.

"Stay home. Get some sleep, and stay home until the storm's done so we can do our job," said Pauley.
