Man flees with 19-month-old child, police swoop in

MASON CITY, Iowa (KTTC) -- A Mason City man has been jailed on two felony and four misdemeanor charges after police say he assaulted a woman and fled with a 19-month-old child.

Police were called to a home in the 300 block of 2nd Street N.W. just after 1 a.m. and began searching for Aaron Hermen, 24, and the missing child.  Police say about a half hour later an officer stopped Hermen's vehicle in the Highlands neighborhood and he was arrested.  The child was not with him, but Lt. Rich Jensen said they were able to find the youngster uinjured at a relative's home nearby.

Herman faces charges that include Domestic Assault with Strangulation, 3rd Offense Operation while under the influence, and Child Endangerment.  He's being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
