EVANSDALE (KWWL) -
The park at Meyers Lake in Evansdale will now be called "Angels' Park" in memory of the Evansdale cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins. The cousins were last seen alive riding their bikes by Meyers Lake on July 13, 2012.
Donna Frickson of the Evansdale Chamber of Commerce said the Parks Board in Evansdale approved the re-naming of the park at Meyers Lake on Monday night. Frickson also said the trail around the park will now be called, "Trail of Angels," in memory of the girls.
Frickson said no signs have been posted yet.
In December of 2012, the Evansdale Chamber of Commerce requested to declare July 13th of each year as "Elizabeth and Lyric Day." July 13th is the last time the girls were seen alive.
In a City Council meeting on Dec. 18, 2012, Evansdale Mayor Chad Deutsch supported the group's request and said he would be willing to sign a proclamation to declare July 13th as "Elizabeth and Lyric Day."
Frickson said there are other memorials being worked on, including a park on the island of Meyers Lake.
Memorial funds have been established to help cover costs of the memorials.
