Copper theft at radio tower

Posted:

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) - Rochester police are investigating a recent copper theft that took a local radio station off the air for a while.

Early Monday morning, someone broke into the KWWK radio tower on 14th Street Northwest.

A chain link fence and door handle were both vandalized so the culprit could get copper from the transmission line, causing the tower to stop transmitting.

A motor was also taken.

An engineer found the crime when he went into work around 4 a.m.

Damage to the property is estimated at $550.

The stolen items were worth about $200.
