MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- After a strong start, Minnesota has fallen into a familiar midseason slide under coach Tubby Smith.
The Gophers tumbled from 12th all the way to 23rd in the latest rankings released on Monday. They lost a pair of road games last week to Northwestern and Wisconsin, scoring a total of 92 points. They fell to 15-5 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten.
Smith says he sees turnovers as his team's biggest problem. A lack of production in conference play by senior power forward Rodney Williams has also been an issue. Smith says he's concerned that Williams has let his scoring decline affect his defense.
Minnesota hosts Nebraska on Tuesday and Iowa on Sunday.
