DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says American Crystal Sugar Co. has paid a $25,000 fine and taken action to reduce air pollution at its East Grand Forks plant.
The agency reviewed company records from 2009 to 2011 and found emissions from the plant's kilns exceeded permitted levels and that its equipment used to monitor the emissions was out of service for extended periods.
The MPCA also says American Crystal Sugar failed to record a number of daily inspections that are required to on equipment that monitors air emissions.
The agency says the company has taken corrective action to comply.
