Minn.'s Goldy Gopher wins top college mascot honor

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Goldy Gopher has reason to grin -- the always-smiling, buck-toothed University of Minnesota mascot has again won top national honors.

Goldy was first in the 2013 UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship in Orlando, Fla., over the weekend.

Several other Big Ten mascots made the top 10. Wisconsin's Bucky Badger was third, Michigan State's Sparty was sixth, Ohio State's Brutus Buckeye was seventh and Iowa's Herky the Hawk was eighth.

This is the second time in the past three years that Goldy has claimed the national title.
